150 years of history

PEG : a family saga

Today, the company located in Normandie counts more than 120 employees, achieves a turnover of more than 23 millions euros. It's specialized in blankets and pillows manufacture and commercialization. Also, they are specialized in manufacturing wadding and insulation with high added value. The company relies on a unique expertise that has been enriched for more than 150 years around true family saga : The Guérot and the Comalada.

The founder of the saga

Behind the 3 letters P.E.G., hides the initials of the company founder : Paul Edouard Guérot (1861-1935). At the end of the XIXth century, he made the company become a major player of the fraying textile in Normandy. Meaning that PEG collects the duster and new waste and then manufacture stuffing to product principally blankets.

At the time, PEG had about 100 employees. Paul Edouard Guérot is a colourful figure and a great epicuriran who loved women, erotics etching and fox-hunting. He died as a single man 31th, December 1933.

A three-headed management

After PEG's death, the company continues its activities in several directions. One of his nephew, Emmanuel Maxime Giraud gets PEG back with Georges Leroy on his side, who will stay CEO until 1962. Later, a third CEO joined them : Robert Comalada. When Emmanuel Maxime Giraud dies, Robert Comalada becomes the CEO in 1957.

The factory employs around 100 handworkers and produces 120 tons of fraying per month. Dusters and new waste from hosiery and textile factories arrive from Europe and South America.

Textile crisis and diversification

During the 60's, synthetics fibers are going to disrupt the textile market balance. Gradually, the synthetic will supplant whool and cotton.

PEG takes a natural turn : with using its know-how of the textile fraying, the company starts to do the same with synthetic fibers waste and will work it then in sheet. The parallel development of the quilting business will complement its offer. At the time, the wadding was used to make padded bathrobes aptly called « cozy » by women.

1967 : PEG starts crossing borders

Parkas producers in Russia start to understand the interest of these wadding that have great thermal attributes. Very quickly, PEG starts to scuplt a reputation in these cold countries and the company export its wadding by full wagons.

Mountain sports are in a great development during this period and its accompanied by new needs : PEG becomes naturally leader in the Europe over-refined under the brands of Anapurna and Himalaya. These waddings are very efficient but still heavy, this maintains the old belief that weight is a synonym of efficiency in thermal insulation.

1983 : PEG develops its Trispace brand in partnership with Rhône Poulenc Company

The wadding is lighter ! The density of the fibers of wadding layers decreases with the arrival of very thin fibers. Insulation, lightness, resistance : these qualities will allow at this time to sell until 5 millions m² of Trispace wadding every year on all the five continents.

In 1996, Alain Comalada will suceeds to his father, Robert, as a CEO.

2000's : Wadding starts to breath

Dupont de Nemours entrust PEG the licence for the Thermolite Micro production in Europe. This licence will be operated to a European level by Advansa that will develop later the new concept : Thermo Cool. For this one, PEG becomes and will stay its exclusive producer in Europe.

These new waddings include fibers which serve to remove excess moisture and heat generate by an intense effort : these fibers opened the doors of a very technics market for PEG such as athletes or soldiers who evolve in extreme conditions.
